If you're new to sailing, then starting with dinghies is a fantastic (and by far the best) way to learn. The club's dinghies are kept at Waldringfield on the river Deben adjacent to Waldringfield Sailing club, with which we have close ties. Dinghy sailing is also a great introduction to sailing our yacht, although not essential.
Our Hartley is easily sailed solo but comfortably takes two and is used as our training boat. The Xenons take a crew of two or three and offer an exciting sail. The Lasers are a single handers for the more adventurous. The club provides buoyancy aids.
For a novice sailor, six to ten training sessions should suffice for qualification. For an experienced dinghy sailor, a short demonstration sail is all that is necessary.
We sail from April to October. Throughout the season, we organise races (not too serious) and weekend social trips up or down the river Deben, sometimes out to sea. In addition, qualified helms may hire any dinghy for casual, independent sailing whenever they like. As well as helming, there are lots of opportunities to sail as crew on the Xenons or Hartley.
